Rajinikanth website runs without internet – How this works?

I am sure you have seen the headline in recent news and social media sites about Rajni’s site. If you have not seen the site yet, here’s the link - http://www.desimartini.com/allaboutrajni.htm (site will start working once you remove your network connection!!!). I also tested the site after reading the news headlines following the steps provided in the site.

First, something about the site – it’s a brilliant idea, small but enough to make site an instant hit. The site will look immortal/super-human and people raise their eyebrows. The site is developed by company called webchutney and their previous one was also a hit: - Arey baba chalis chor - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxT5CwoUbw0 (thanks to my cousin for this info who works in advertisement industry).

I was more interested in the technical details about the site and started digging to find the root.

1) The site obviously works with internet connection. They have probably used some scripting language (lash or JavaScript) to run the page from browser cache/cookies.

2) I also read some articles which explain that the site constantly pings an IP Address and displays message to remove the internet connection (also read that complex algorithm is used etc). I could not agree to this.

3) I believe it checks the network connectivity and not internet availability since I tried to access the site from my smartphone and it was showing the message to switch off the internet (Smartphone was using Edge/GPRS for connectivity and switched off network after establishing the connection).

4) Network connectivity can be checked in different ways – AJAX, JQuery, and JavaScript. The site might have used JavaScript since it’s a HTML file, refreshing part of the page to check the network connectivity. Here are some links available to check connectivity
